Dr. Anne O’Dwyer

Professor of Psychology

I teach, research, and now, I write.

I've been teaching psychology at Bard College at Simon's Rock for over 25 years! I am currently working on a book on the social psychology of road rage--looking at the role of cognitive biases, attributions, expectations, and being in a rush on our propensity to anger while driving as well as in other contexts (such as air rage).

I admit it. I’m a city girl at heart—I love the energy and vibrancy of cities. But, I have become much more of a country girl since I moved to the Berkshires. I’ve come to love the peace that open spaces and vast stretches of nature can bring. I love my life in Great Barrington with my husband, Jim Frangione (founder of the Great Barrington Public Theater), and our two cats, Mookie & Jackpot.

As a transplant from Boston, MA, I still love the Red Sox, and Jim keeps me updated about the Boston Bruins. (I also attribute some of my interest in road rage to having learned to drive in Boston.)

I also teach at Bard Academy and Bard Microcollege Holyoke, and have taught at the Bard High School Early Colleges. My courses range from the foundational—Intro to Psychology, Social Psychology, Intro to Cognitive Neuropsychology, Research Methods, Developmental Psychology, and Intro to Statistics—to the more advanced/specialized—Conflict and Conflict Resolution, Theories of Self, William James's Principles of Psychology, and Political Psychology.

My research interests center around how conflicts with others affect how we think and feel about ourselves. I am pleased to be working with Mona Kanin @ Great Dog Literary as I develop this project.
